I had never read/heard anything about this book and picked it up on a whim. At first I couldn't figure out where the author was going with this - actually, I guess I still haven't figured it out - but it was the kind of writing that I really enjoy. I much prefer books that don't explain everything immediately to those that are constantly explaining the history and motivations and goals of the characters. It's a book! It's not a TV show or movie or video game, it's something you're supposed to think about and imagine in your mind. Learn to tolerate uncertainty. This is a coming of age/wanderjahr/quest type of novel set in a fantasy landscape that's very dark. I'm really looking forward to reading more about it.
